Why I am a Champion for this Cause
I’ve personally seen how meals on wheels changes lives for the better. The food is good. People eat more veggies and a greater variety of food and they tell me they feel better for it. They don’t worry about skipping a meal because they’re too tired or don’t have the money. I’ve seen how having a meal delivered helps keep isolated people connected to community and supportive services. I’ve seen how having a meal delivered makes the transition from hospital to home a little easier. Food is such a basic need and meals on wheels fills that gap for people who have difficulty shopping and preparing meals for themselves. With a bit of friendly conversation and periodic assessments in the home, people are able to live safely and happily in their own home and neighborhood. I’m the Executive Director of Foodnet Meals on Wheels and I’m excited to be working with the volunteer board of directors and our roller derby friends to raise awareness and money through this project.
